The 'Delargo Towers' Garden - February

February has been a bitter month with hard frost rain and strong winds. We were very pleased to spend part of it in Spain. here's a quick tour of what brightened our homecoming and tempted us out in to the garden.

The Narcissus 'Tete-a-Tete' have done well and look fab on their third year of flowering. Feeding after the flowers fade seems to be the trick.

Viola Morpho - looking a little tatty. They have looked great but we didn't get out and take many photos this month

The wallflowers are full of promise -

As is the back garden seen through the kitchen window

Hyacinth from indoors last year were planted out after flowering.
Looking great and smelling gorgeous.

Spring cant be far off

Meteorological spring will begin on 01 March 2016 and ends on 31 May 2016.

Astronomical spring begins on 20 March 2016 and ends on 19 June 2016.

Fingers crossed for some warmer weather and who knows? Some sunshine?

Roll on March and the equinox and to getting some seedlings out of the kitchen and into the garden

The 'Delargo Towers' Garden - January

Hello me dears. Well then January has come and gone and I am writing this rather late post on our return from hols.
Looking back, the month was a mixed bag mild to start and then a little snow, a few hard frosts ( -4.8'c ) along with storm force winds

The dahlia imperialis lasted into 2016 but not for long.

But along with the frosts there are some early stirrings of Spring.

Window boxes and wallflowers are looking good

The wallflowers we grew from seed are looking much better than the ones bought in last year.

In the back garden -

Bluebells are up -

The last nasturtium from last year held on for a while

We had the first flowering of the cyclamen we planted

along with our first snowdrops.

and the daffs have started nice and early this year.

All of last Autumns plantlets are doing well and seed sowing has started indoors.

All in all a good start to the year
I will be back for the February posting ( hopefully ) on time next month

The 'Delargo Towers' Garden - December

December has proved to be the warmest ( and wettest ) ever ! In our area we have had Daffodils, Canna lilies, snowdrops jasmine and camellias all in flower this month
but nothing can top our delight with having our dahlia imperialis flower at last.

It is a rather ugly brute of a plant but the flowers are so delicate.

It has gone down to -3'c at the end of last month and taken more batterings from more storm force winds than I thought possible.

More seasonal are the window boxes. We decided to stick just to one variety of violas this year.

Viola – Morpho

The front border is a lot more full this year a lovely light purple osteospermum is giving us colour, while the wallflowers and foxgloves are waiting to do their stuff in the Spring

In the garden itself we still have a little colour.

This very early Anemone De Caen might be a bit nibbled but is still a joy to see.

The last of the cosmos. They did us proud this year but we will try another variety next

The top garden looks a bit bleak this month but we have high hopes for next year.

Out with the old year in with the new !

We have a lot to look forward to

and we have not started sowing seeds in earnest yet
