The 'Delargo Towers' Garden - April

A slow start to Spring, cool and grey mostly but we have a stunner to share this month.

Chionodoxa forbesei

A great Joy and it flowered all month long too.

The violas in the front window boxes are still putting on a show

The wall flowers are getting ready to do their stuff
and smell lovely

There is not much wow factor in the beds but thing are moving on and starting to grow

We do have Spring colour - with the bluebells give us some interest

The aquilegias are out of the green house and in the garden.

Tulips and the pots are all looking jolly.

 A gift from Mark, cardiocrinum giganteum. We hope it will flower this year but if not it will be worth the wait

It's a busy time for us with always something to do so not a very detailed post this month but we should see the benefit next month

The 'Delargo Towers' Garden - March

March is said ' to come in as a lion and go out as a lamb

Well me dears it came in as a lion no problem, cold wet and windy and pretty much stayed like that up to the end of the month.

Thank heavens for anemone blanda.

Its at its peak this month and spreading around nicely

Now that the narcissus tete a tete have finished. Viola Morpho is back doing sterling work in the windowsill.

The daffs in the front bed are still hanging on though -

and the roses are growing away.

To our great joy the Iochroma australe (Acnistus australis) we grew from seed last Spring have survived the Winter outside and unprotected.

There isn't a great deal to show off this month.

Tulip Gavota might not have the impact they did last year but are still very jolly

We are itching to get out and sort out the beds as soon as it dries and warms up a bit.

There is a lot to do.

Some work has been done, the apple trees are all pruned back to give a bit more light.

Disaster - 

Having forgotten about the hippeastrum ALL winter it had started to rot. 

We rescued it and it started to grow but sadly its flower-bud has aborted.

It would have been its 3rd flowering.

We were kindly given cardiocrinum giganteum as a gift from the 'RHS Early Spring Show'. 

How fab is that.

Most of ( but not all ) the fuchsias and osteospermum have made it through.

There are lots of new seedlings

and I do mean alot !

along with quite a few dahlia tubers to fill the garden to bursting point this Summer

This is a weird one me dears, the foxes have been planting things too !
This was burred in the border. A stiletto shoe !!!

The 'Delargo Towers' Garden - February

February has been a bitter month with hard frost rain and strong winds. We were very pleased to spend part of it in Spain. here's a quick tour of what brightened our homecoming and tempted us out in to the garden.

The Narcissus 'Tete-a-Tete' have done well and look fab on their third year of flowering. Feeding after the flowers fade seems to be the trick.

Viola Morpho - looking a little tatty. They have looked great but we didn't get out and take many photos this month

The wallflowers are full of promise -

As is the back garden seen through the kitchen window

Hyacinth from indoors last year were planted out after flowering. 

Looking great and smelling gorgeous.

Spring cant be far off

Meteorological spring will begin on 01 March 2016 and ends on 31 May 2016.

Astronomical spring begins on 20 March 2016 and ends on 19 June 2016.

Fingers crossed for some warmer weather and who knows? Some sunshine?

Roll on March and the equinox and to getting some seedlings out of the kitchen and into the garden
